Welcome to Larson's Drive Inn DOT COM

The Larson family purchased a going business and started out April 11, 1980. It was a tiny building with a tiny dining room, enough room for 2 small booths and a pinball machine. In the spring of 1981, we enlarged the dining room so we had enough room for more booths and tables. In 1989, we added larger bathrooms, a walk in freezer and a "cozy corner" dining area, big enough for a round table and chairs.

June 12, 2000 brought the BIG FLOOD - from 17-20 inches of rain fell in the area overnight. We had some flood water but got it cleaned up in time to open a day or two later. The following spring, while Art was in the hospital, Sandra began spring cleanup and discovered that the floors were still wet and rotting out. At the same time, Scott found a building in Grand Forks for sale and we quickly decided to buy it and move it out here. It arrived June 12, 2001 and then began the process of gutting it and fixing it up the way we wanted it. We opened in time for Larimore Days that year and business was fantastic. The new (to us) building serves our purposes well ane we are glad to have it. We retained the walk in freezer, bathrooms and cozy corner, which we expanded to handle 3 more booths, raising our inside seating capacity to about 38-40 people. With the new building and its better heating/cooling system, we were able to extend our season from mid-April to the end of November or even later.

Most of the family members have had a part in helping out in the business. We were only open from 5 -10 pm originally, 5-12 weekends for several years. When Sandra graduated from high school in 1988, we expanded our hours and she took over the noon shift, cooking, which she continues. Marlene works the evening shifts. Art helps out washing dishes, making cole slaw or whatever we need at the moment. Scott and Mike took their turns as car hops in the earlier years. Randy was already in college when we bought the business.

We employ mostly teenagers and have been privileged to work with many of the Larimore area's finest kids!! We have about 9-10 teens on board every summer. They are fun to work with and help keep me young!! They are always loyal and hard working - just a neat bunch!!

August 11, 2005 marks 25 years for us - a quarter of a century!! We are planning to do something special to mark that time. I am ready to slow down and take it easier now but I still want to keep flipping burgers for awhile longer.

Our malts and shakes are famous for miles around - They are made from real hard ice cream and what a treat!! We have dozens of flavors available for you to try, as well as assorted burgers, fries, onion rings. chicken, shrimp - whatever suits your fancy!!! Come and give us a try! We offer takeout, dining room service and car hops who will come to your car, take your order and deliver it on a tray that hooks on your window! All you have to do is turn your lights on. Come as you are!! Our dining room decor is "Route 66". Check it out!
